🔗 Share this article The network's Top New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3. In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit. A Significant Investment On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come." Network Praise The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility. "All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines. At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.” Future Seasons Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan. The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
