New information has come to light regarding the shocking deaths of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Los Angeles home residence on Sunday.

The Discovery

A source indicates citing a person close to the family, a massage therapist arriving for an session first raised the alarm after being unable to gain access the residence. This individual then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.

Upon entering the residence, Romy came upon her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, paramedics discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, including the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.

Disputed Reports

The person close to the family also disputed several earlier details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.

The source also pushed back against widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement applies to descriptions of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a gathering held by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. Although the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that reports of a "blow-up" between the two were untrue.

Ongoing Inquiry Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some media reports noted the condition of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a number of hours.

Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the family home. He was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
