Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
